uBlock Origin Lite for Chrome

uBlock Origin Lite is a free and open-source content blocker for Chromium-based browsers, built on Manifest V3 (MV3) as the successor to the MV2-based uBlock Origin extension. It blocks ads and other unwanted content using declarative filtering rules that the browser itself applies. The uBlock Origin project is known for being efficient and for giving users the means to enforce their own (content-filtering) choices.

**PACKAGING NOTE:** This installs no software. It installs a registry key for the extension that Chrome will see and then ask you for permission to enable the extension if you are in Chrome or on the next run. Chrome will install the latest version of the extension. The mentioned version is the version at time of packaging, you can ignore it. Chrome will handle updates to the extension.

**IMPORTANT NOTE ON MANIFEST V3 (MV3):** Google Chrome has replaced extensions based on Manifest V2 with extensions based on Manifest V3. The full uBlock Origin (MV2) relies on capabilities that MV3 no longer provides, so it cannot work as intended in current Chrome versions. This package therefore installs uBlock Origin Lite, the MV3-based edition. Because MV3 restricts what extensions are allowed to do, uBlock Origin Lite has a reduced feature set and less flexible filtering than the full uBlock Origin. If you previously used this package for the full uBlock Origin, the old extension is no longer installed by this package. This is a limitation of the browser platform and cannot be fixed by this package.

Users who depend on comprehensive and reliable ad and tracker blocking will need to look for additional or alternative solutions that operate one level deeper than the browser extension, i.e. between the browser and the operating system (for example system-wide filtering applications that work independently of the browser's extension API). Such tools are not affected by Chrome's extension restrictions and also cover other applications.
